Architecture: Architects point of the view

The building from the point of view of the architect

The “intellectual limits” of MOM Park was determined by the building development, the imagination of the architects had to be adjusted to this. The development plan defined the building heights, the extent of building up the site, the proportions of the basic functions, the proportion of the residential buildings and the office blocks and the size of the planned cinema viewing rooms. The result is twenty thousand square meters of commercial area, fifty per cent built-up territory, with thirty per cent of the total area being a green zone, with not even cellars underneath.

All this is contrasted to the old industrial site where only a few trees were found in the desolate space between the rundown industrial buildings, none of which were possible or worth keeping according to long examinations.

Puhl Architectural Agency received a ready-made building plan, which had to be continuously adjusted to in the course of construction. Already the basis of the original plans was comprised by a functional layout. This was how the building of the amusement and shopping centre was placed at the corner of the busy Alkotás utca and Csörsz utca. This is how the residential buildings were placed in the quieter area behind, and how the office towers were built at the corner of. It was a challenging task to place the parking facilities: the development plan did not only determine how many parking spaces were to be created in MOM Park, but also how deep the architecture could go, how many floors could be built in the underground parking facility.

Puhl Architectural Agency is, putting everything together, satisfied with the execution of the construction of MOM Park. As they say, no matter how many times they had to compromise, they turned out a new type of city centre, an well-designed and pleasant building complex, with which the district and the city has been enriched not only functionally but also aesthetically.
